Sport: show it or let others show it

Last year Australian sports fans watched over 1648 hours of sport on Free TV.

Next year, and the year after and the year after that and beyond, that won’t change.

Events like the Melbourne Cup, AFL and NRL competitions, Bledisloe Cup, Australian Open Tennis, Wimbledon and V8 Supercars will still be on Free TV.

But Australian sports fans are being dudded. While the free to air networks are happy to show these big rating sporting events, there are hundreds of other sports events they don’t want to show because they don’t rate as well as dramas and soaps and movies like “The Sound of Music”.

Problem is, because of the way a Federal Government law called the anti-siphoning list currently works, the Free to Airs can ‘hoard’ the rights to these other sporting events even though they have no intention of ever showing them.

They are taking sports fans for granted and Australians deserve better.

It’s simple really. The message to Free TV is this:

Just show it, or let others show it!

What could be fairer than that?

Australian viewers will be the big winners.

This sports rort by free TV has gone on too long. We urge you to let your local Member of Parliament know that you do too!   Please follow the links on this site to find out more about how more sport can be shown on both Free TV and Pay TV.
